BRUSSELS (CP) - Bombardier Transportation says the Brussels transport authority has ordered 22 more bi-directional Bombardier Flexity Outlook trams in a contract worth $64 million US.
The deal is part of a five-year framework agreement reached in October 2003 and includes the maintenance of basic train bogies and propulsion equipment for 15 years, as well as the delivery of spare parts for 10 years, Montreal-based Bombardier (TSX:BBD.SV.B) said Wednesday.
The additional order brings to 68 the total number of Flexity Outlook vehicles ordered by the Belgian authority. Delivery of the low-floor trams is expected to take place between May 2007 and March 2008.
The announcement took place at the rollout ceremony for the first of 46 vehicles ordered in 2003. That event, held at the tramway museum in Brussels, was attended by Pascal Smet, Minister of Mobility of the Brussels Region, as well as political representatives and Bombardier executives.
The 32-metre-long vehicles will be made at Bombardier's Bruges site in Belgium, while the bogies will be produced at the Siegen site in Germany.
In trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Tuesday, Bombardier shares rose three cents to close at $3.06, a gain of almost one per cent.
