Honda Canada to recall 30,000 vehicles
Honda Canada will recall some 30,000 vehicles after the automaker received complaints about brake pedals on select models.
The national roundup will include 24,680 Odyssey and 4,137 Element vehicles from the 2007-2008 model years to make changes to the Vehicle Stability Assist(TM) (VSA(R)) modulator.
“Honda has received customer complaints of brake pedals that feel ‘soft’ or that gradually exhibit a pedal height that gets lower (closer to the floor) before the vehicle stops,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.
“In affected vehicles, this condition tends to slowly increase over time.”
There have been no confirmed accidents in Canada related to the situation, Honda said.
The problem stems from installation of some ABS systems that allows for a small amount of air to enter the modulator during self-check mode. Over a period of months or years, air can accumulate and result in the “soft brake pedal" or "low brake pedal" symptoms.
Honda will send recall notices to Canadians starting at the end of April and affected drivers are encouraged to bring their vehicles to authorized dealers at that time.
The news comes the same day Toyota executives were questioned by MPs in Ottawa on their handling of safety concerns that resulted in the recall of some 8.5 million vehicles worldwide.
