The financial world is always changing. The value of money can go up and down in the blink of an eye. This has an impact on everything from the interest you receive at the bank to the rate you pay on your mortgage.

GICs

Guaranteed Investment Trusts (GICs) are offered at every financial institution and are a simple and safe way to invest your money. When you place your money in a GIC, both your money and the interest are guaranteed and can't be decline like a stock. GICs come in different terms, from 30 days to several months.

Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs)

A Registered Retirement Savings Plan is an investment plan used to save money tax-free over the years until retirement. While there are many kinds of ways to invest the money in your RRSP (mutual funds, stocks) this table shows the savings terms with various financial institutions. A minimum investment is required and interest is compounded annually.

RRIFs

Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs) are investment vehicles that allows your savings to be paid out in a tax efficient manner. Beginning at age 69 (check) you must begin to draw out your RRIF. RRIFs can be invested in many different ways but for income purposes, you can choose a savings, 1 to 5 terms or 10 to 20 years.

Treasury bills or T-bills are government 'debt' instruments which financial institutions offer to consumers in smaller allotments. The principal and the interest is guaranteed and the terms offered vary widely.

Term Deposits 30 days to 89 days

Term Deposits 90 days up to 364 days

Car Loans

This table displays rates offered by lenders for car loans. Terms range from three to five years and rates are based on a new car loan of $15,000. Interest rates may vary from those shown here depending on individual credit history.

Closed Mortgages
